#OneRoomChallenge, Week Four: Faux Roman Blind DIY
It's the fourth week of the One Room Challenge, and with just two weeks left to go, it feels good to see things starting to come together. This week I made a faux roman blind for the water closet and thought I would share the step-by-step tutorial with you here. I am by no means an expert seamstress (I can sew a straight line) and am using the Ikea SY sewing machine which I love for projects like this.
I used an old fabric shower curtain and a simple tension rod to create the blind.
Measure the curtain to match the width and length of your window with an extra half inch for hemming on each side. I made sure mine would fit between the caps on the rod when installed, while still covering the glass. I found going full the length of the window gave me the perfect amount of fabric to create the folds.
Hem any unfinished edges and fold over the top then sew straight across to create a pocket for the tension rod to go through.
Next, hang the curtain and use clips to mock up the folds at even lengths.
Working in sections create a hem at the top of each "pocket" that will be hidden behind the fold (as seen below.)
Hand tack the corners and center of each section with matching thread to hold the layers together while still keeping a smooth surface on the front.
This is what the back of the curtain should look like.
Here's the finished result. Hang and enjoy!
And finally, a little preview for next week with the removable wallpaper that arrived today that I've just begun to install... pro-tip: toddlers don't make the best assistants if you want perfect results, but they are adorable.
