Shop Local: Fellow Opens Valencia Street Outpost
If you aren’t already familiar with their design, SF based startup Fellow created the Stag, a beautiful pour-over style kettle that comes in both stovetop and electric versions, and launched the product via Kickstarter. Now they are taking things offline with a brick and mortar outpost on Valencia Street that opened last month and is described as part showroom, part playground. In the front of the shop, you can purchase Fellow's own products alongside a carefully curated selection of products from other brands, including burr grinders and coffee scales to help you brew the perfect cup. They will be featuring a rotating selection of five different varieties of coffee both from local roasters and around the globe, available for purchase by the bag or single serving.
In the back of the shop, you'll find the playground which is staffed with Brew Guides giving mini-lessons to customers on how to brew their own pour over coffee using the brand's kettles and products. You can brew yourself a cup to go (with any of the single serving coffees purchased at the front) at one of their four brew stations. There's also a colorful, Insta-ready 20-foot infographic on the wall of the "coffee taster's flavor wheel" painted by SF local, muralist Ian Momsen.
According to founder Jake Miller, the playground will also host, "weekly classes featuring award-winning baristas, roasters, and growers." For upcoming dates and offerings, sign up for their email list or follow along on Instagram @fellowproducts. Notably, 2017 US Brewers Cup Champion, Dylan Siemens of Onyx Coffee Lab will be doing a full takeover of the space on January 19-21 with brew classes, cuppings, and a Coffee Cocktails event in the evening.
