One Room Challenge: Week Two, The Bathroom Design

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge, and I’m excited. The bathroom has been one of my least favorite spaces in the house for some time, and just looking at these design boards is giving me a little boost. Aside from the purely practical purposes of creating boards like these- namely that all your revisions take place on paper and you save yourself so much grief in the buyer’s remorse department, there is something so very motivating about getting a glimpse of what the finished project will look like.

Here’s what we’re planning for the bathroom and what we’ve already accomplished. Namely, the woodwork was painted while the cabinet painters were here, and I am so very happy about it. The color turned out even better than I imagined. We also painted the upper part of the wall the same off-white as the rest of the house, but I plan to add some texture by covering that portion with Roman clay. I love how it turned out in the guest suite, and I’m excited to incorporate it upstairs.

We’re removing the towel bar and replacing it with a peg rail running the length of the woodwork. It’s functional, and I also think it will help to incorporate elements like this, seeing as it’s such a small room. For visual impact and to bring some nature into this windowless space, we will bring in some oversized art with a botanical theme. We’re also swapping the side table by the tub for a wooden shower stool. It’ll be functional as a place to sit while bathing kids, and the scale is so much better.

For some much-needed storage, we found a wall-mounted shelf unit with a vintage feel that we’ll be mounting above the toilet, we’re planning to convert a vintage dresser into a vanity, and I picked up a little over the ledge caddy for the clawfoot tub.

Finally, we’re swapping out the existing lights for this pair with botanical etchings (we wanted something that cast a pretty pattern because windowless) and are layering a colorful bath runner with a neutral one for maximum coverage- because kids.
