DIY: Faux Succulent Mini Hanging Terrariums
Before the holidays, my four-year-old and I created these mini terrariums to gift to friends and neighbors, and we had so much fun with the project I wanted to share it here. I was inspired by some mini terrarium ornaments from Terrain to create something of my own and, after a bit of research, came up with this. It’s a quick, easy and affordable little project, and the results were so realistic we had to remind the recipients not to water them. I’m planning to use my remaining ones to dress up my desk, but these little cuties are the perfect way to bring a bit of green anywhere you don’t have enough light for a real plant… or if you just prefer a little maintenance-free option.
Supplies
String (included with terrariums)
Disposable cup and spoon for mixing
Wire cutters or heavy scissors to trim succulents
Chopstick or pencil to arrange
How To
1. Trim your succulents to size. If they’re too big for the terrarium, you can remove the lower “leaves.”
2. Mix the Mod Podge and pea gravel until it is thoroughly coated.
3. Carefully spoon the mixture into the bottom of the terrarium.
4. Dip the stem of your succulents into mod podge and push into your gravel mixture
5. Dip the bottom of bits of moss and use them to fill out your arrangement; a chopstick or pencil can be helpful for hard to reach spots
6. Allow to dry until the glue is clear. You can speed the process up with a warm hair dryer on low if you’re impatient like me.
7. Trim string to desired lengths and tie to the terrariums.
8. Enjoy!
