Travel: Stay Lokal in Philly
When looking for a place to stay, I always find myself toggling through various apps and browsers trying to find the perfect spot. I log in to Hotel Tonight hoping to find something in a convenient place, with a kitchenette and at least one door that closes because, well, toddler. Then I check Airbnb while trying to forget that one time when the only window in our place was directly behind a dumpster... for an NY bar. Cue the crashing bottles all night. Finally, I google “boutique hotels (insert city here)” and scroll around the map searching by proximity to transit and caffeine.
Magically, last time around that search turned up something that meets all of my criteria: a cute, convenient neighborhood spot right next door to a cafe. A kitchen. Doors that close and the feel of an Airbnb with a little more service. Oh, and did I mention it’s beautifully designed by Jersey Ice Cream Co? (Follow them on IG, you won’t regret it.)
It's called Lokal Hotel and touts its unique "invisible service," you let yourself in just like an Airbnb, but it's a bit heavier on the amenities. There's an iPad loaded with everything you need to order groceries or takeout, they stock the room according to preferences such as how you take your coffee, and there are local magazines you can borrow in the lobby and their own curated guide to the best spots to visit in the hood.
Also of note is the beautiful linen bedding by Parachute home, bathrooms stocked with products by local favorite Duross and Langel, Rival Bros Coffee and tea from Steep and Grind.
