#OneRoomChallenge, Week Six: The Final Reveal

The six weeks are officially up, and the (self-declared) tiniest room of the  One Room Challenge is finally complete. When we started out the water closet was, well, not much more than a closet., the 15 square foot room felt cluttered and awkward, and I spent a lot of time thinking about how we could update it and bring some big personality to the little space.

Last week you saw he wallpaper go up, which was the dramatic focal point and this week was all about functionality and details. I ended up DIY-ing just about everything, from the leather strap magazine racks, to the wood beaded rope TP holder, to the painted wastebasket but for the sake of brevity, I won't get into all of that here. Let me know in the comments if there's something specific you want the details on and I'll give it its own post.

The other piece we finally got up was the shelf above the door which enabled us to get everything off the ground (and out of the reach of our toddler) increasing the functionality of the space exponentially. I wanted something that was an exact fit, and that looked almost built in so I went with this live edge option from World Market that is made of solid wood then trimmed it down to size. Because it had the top of the door frame to rest on and wouldn’t be holding anything too heavy we attached it with simple L brackets from the top to create the appearance of a floating shelf.

Because I DIY-ed so much of the room and used a few things that I had on hand, the total cost of the makeover came in at just $170, proof that you can make a significant impact without spending a lot. I love how everything turned out, and I hope that you do too! You can view the full project gallery below.
